He was not known as a great intellect, but when he opened up, I thought Jimmy was borderline brilliant, absolutely brilliant. I would think that for his education, which hadn’t gone too far, his eagerness to learn - his personal studies of Shakespeare, Lorca, sculpting, this and that - his desire to grow was way above average. He was on a big musician kick and learned to play his recorder. He gave me the music from “Romeo and Juliet” as a present.
